Parshva Hasta Padasana (Side Hands and Feet Pose)

Parshva = side of the body, or flank. Hasta = hand. Pada = foot.
Organizing the pose
- • From Tadasana (Mountain Pose), come into Utthita Hasta Padasana (Extended Hands and Feet Pose).
• Turn the whole of the right leg out and line the right heel up with the center of the left arch.
• Turn the back foot in.
• Come back to Utthita Hasta Padasana (Extended Hands and Feet Pose) and repeat on the second side.
Practice Points
- • Ground down through the big toe mound of the front foot.
• Turn the front thigh all the way out to bring the hip, knee and foot all facing the same direction to the side.
• Press into the back heel
• Draw the thighs up into the chest.
• Reach the draw the tailbone down towards the heels and soften the lower abdomen.
• Lift the upper abdomen.
• Lengthen up through the sides of the trunk.
• Reach the wrists away from each other to get a stretch across the chest and the upper back.
